    Students of Saptak School of Music

    The Saptak Ensemble was conceived by Vidushi Manju Mehta. Over several years, she conceptualised and composed numerous innovative ensembles in thoughtful and creative formats. This particular ensemble was her final conceptualised work and is unique in its blending of instrumental, vocal, and percussion music. This ensemble not only consists of students but also includes faculty members of the Saptak School of Music. The ensemble features Harshit Mehta, Vedant Rawal, Kashvee Vora, Jiya Mistry, Nidhi Barot, Vidhee Pandya, Himali Mehta, Daivaxi Pandit, Dwij Namjoshi, Nikunj Modi, Sharanya Gupta, Harshad Dolasiya, Pravin Sonara, and Virali Amin on vocals; Pratima Anandjiwala, Kamini Desai, Varsha Gandhi, Vinita Shukla, Amla Shah, and Deepsikha Jain on sitar; Dipal Mehta on flute; Anuj Anjaria on santoor; and Drashti Jain on violin. The ensemble is accompanied by Hemant Bhatt on pakhawaj and Sapan Anjaria, Chirag Paradia, and Yashmit Khombhadia on tabla.

    Lakshay Mohan Gupta

    Lakshay Mohan Gupta is a sitarist and one half of the acclaimed Mohan Brothers duo. He trained rigorously in the Senia-Maihar Gharana tradition — a lineage tracing back to the legendary Ravi Shankar Ji - under gurus such as Balwant Rai Verma Ji and Uma Shankar Mishra Ji. Known for his dynamic sitar–sarod jugalbandi performances with his brother Aayush Mohan, he has earned recognition across India and abroad. The duo made history as the first Indian instrumentalists to perform at the Grammy Museum in Los Angeles. Through global concerts and collaborations, Lakshay continues to bring Indian classical music to wider audiences.

    Aayush Mohan Gupta

    Aayush Mohan Gupta is a sarod player and one half of the celebrated duo Mohan Brothers. He trained rigorously in the tradition of the Senia-Maihar Gharana under gurus like Balwant Rai Verma Ji and Sharan Rani Ji, developing a deep grounding in classical sarod practice. Aayush Mohan began performing in 2009 - both solo and in duet with his brother - and earned international acclaim for his soulful sarod renditions and jugalbandi collaborations. He and his brother made history as the first Indian instrumentalists invited to perform at the Grammy Museum in Los Angeles. Through global concerts, recordings, and outreach (including multiple TEDx talks), Aayush continues to carry forward the legacy of Indian classical music, making it accessible to new audiences worldwide.

    Shubh Maharaj

    Shubh Maharaj, born in 1987 into a distinguished musical family, inherited the rich legacy of the Banaras Gharana. His musical journey was deeply influenced by his grandfather, the legendary maestro Kishan Maharaj Ji, and his father, the late Vijay Shankar Ji, a renowned Kathak dancer. In 1993, he formally became a gandabandh shishya of his grandfather, continuing the family lineage established by his great-grandfather, the eminent tabla stalwart Kanthe Maharaj Ji.

    Akhilesh Gundecha

    Akhilesh Gundecha is a pakhawaj maestro and the youngest member of the renowned Gundecha Brothers musical family. He trained in pakhawaj under esteemed masters Shrikant Mishra Ji and Raja Chhatrapati Singh Ji. Over his career, he has accompanied leading dhrupad vocalists and instrumentalists, and has performed solo pakhawaj recitals extensively. He has also toured internationally, bringing Indian classical percussion to audiences around the world.

    Shubha Mudgal

    Born into a musically dedicated family, Shubha Mudgal has been trained by eminent scholar-musician-composer Ramashreya Jha Ji 'Ramrang', she also received guidance from Vinaya Chandra Maudgalya Ji and Vasant Thakar Ji. She later learnt stylistic techniques from well-known maestros Jitendra Abhisheki Ji and Kumar Gandharva Ji. She also received training in thumri from Naina Devi Ji and is thus a versatile and popular performer.

    Aneesh Pradhan

    Aneesh Pradhan is regarded as one of India's leading tabla players, trained under the distinguished maestro Nikhil Ghosh Ji. He has mastered a broad repertoire drawing from the Delhi, Ajrada, Lucknow, Farrukhabad, and Punjab gharanas. Known for his versatility, Aneesh Ji is celebrated both as a soloist and an accompanist, collaborating widely with vocalists, instrumentalists, and dancers. In addition to performance, he is a composer and researcher, authoring books on tabla and Hindustani music history, and contributing music for theatre, film, and dance.

    Sudhir Nayak

    Sudhir Nayak is a renowned Indian classical harmonium player, known for both his solo performances and as an accompanist to leading vocalists. He trained under masters Tulsidas Borkar Ji and Jitendra Abhisheki Ji, mastering the subtleties of Hindustani raag sangeet and harmonium technique. Over his career, he has composed music, participated in cross-cultural collaborations, and contributed to musical productions beyond classical concerts. Sudhir Ji also dedicates himself to teaching, conducting workshops, interactive sessions, and regular harmonium classes.

    Sanjoy Banerjee

    Born into a musical family, Sanjoy Banerjee began his training under his aunt, Basanti Chatterjee Ji, and later advanced under Pt. Narayan Rao Joshi. In 1989, he studied with Late Pt. A. Kanan, and in 1995 joined the ITC Sangeet Research Academy, continuing his training with Late Vidushi Malabika Kanan, who recognized him as a worthy successor of her musical heritage. Today, he performs internationally and is a regular artist on All India Radio and Doordarshan. Sanjoy Ji is also a dedicated teacher with students across India, Bangladesh, Europe, and the US. He mentors through his institution, Suromurchhana, and serves as guru at the Chhandayan Center for Indian Music in New York, while contributing as a composer and music director.

    Tanmoy Bose

    Tanmoy Bose received his initial training from the legendary Kanai Dutta Ji and later became the Gandabandh Shagird of the renowned Farukhabad Gharana exponent, Shankar Ghosh Ji. He has had the privilege of accompanying legendary musicians such as sitar virtuoso Ravi Shankar, violin maestro L. Subramaniam Ji, and sarod legend Amjad Ali Khansahab, among others. Known for his innovative approach and deep understanding of rhythm, he has performed at prestigious venues and festivals around the world. Beyond performance, Tanmoy Ji is also a composer and educator dedicated to promoting Indian classical music globally.

    Paromita Mukherjee

    Born into a music loving family in Kolkata, After watching young Paromita Mukherjee play the harmonium violin stalwart V G Jog offered to groom the child. Thus from the age of seven she started learning music (Harmonium) from him. She then started learning the violin from. After his demise she learnt from Amina Parera and Aashish Khan (daughter and son of Ali Akbar Khan). She also learnt under Amiya Ranjan Bannerjee at Rabindra Bharati University and also took lessons in the Carnatic style of playing the violin at Kolkata.

    Debasmita Bhattacharya

    Debasmita Bhattacharya, born into a distinguished musical family, began her training under her father, Debasish Bhattacharya Ji, and later under the legendary sarod maestro Buddhadev Dasgupta Ji of the Senia Shahjahanpur Gharana. She has performed on prestigious stages worldwide and is an active collaborator in cross-cultural and contemporary projects, expanding the sarod’s global voice. A dedicated educator, she remains deeply committed to preserving and nurturing the rich legacy of the sarod for future generations.

He is presently under the tutelage of Punjab Gharana virtuoso Yogesh Samsi Ji. Over the years, Yashwant Ji has performed extensively as a soloist and accompanist, accompanying leading vocalists and instrumentalists of Indian classical music. He has also participated in numerous festivals and concerts across India and abroad. He is also a past winner of the Nandan Mehta Shastriya Taal Vaadya Spardha.

    Sajan Mishra

    Sajan Mishra Ji is the younger brother of the renowned vocal duo Rajan Sajan Mishra. Along with his elder brother Rajan Mishra Ji, he received his initial training in the Banaras Gharana style of Hindustani classical music from their grandfather's brother, Bade Ram Das Mishra Ji, their father, Hanuman Prasad Mishra JI, and their uncle, the sarangi virtuoso Gopal Mishra Ji. Over the years, Sajan Mishra Ji has graced numerous prestigious music festivals in India and abroad, captivating audiences with his soulful renditions. His profound command over classical subtleties and emotive expression has earned him widespread recognition and respect in the world of classical music.

    Swaransh Mishra

    Swaransh Mishra represents the sixth generation of classical music belonging to the Banaras Gharana. He received his taleem from his father Sajan Mishra and uncle Rajan Mishra. Deeply rooted in Indian music tradition, disciple of Rajan Sajan Mishra and grandson of the leading exponent and torch-bearer of Kathak dance form, Birju Maharaj, Swaransh Mishra is a multifaceted musician, who is also a songwriter, composer and a captivating orator.

    Hetal Mehta Joshi

    Daughter of Nandan Mehta Ji and sitar maestro Manju Mehta Ji, Hetal Mehta Joshii began learning tabla at a very young age from her father, who was one of the senior disciples of tabla maestro Kishan Maharaj Ji of the Benaras Gharana. She also had the privilege of taking taalim from Kishan Maharaj Ji. Trained under these legends, she has mastered the intricate Gats and Tukdas of the Benaras Gharana. A dedicated performer and lifelong student, she continues to practice and refine her art. She regularly trains under Rajal Shah Ji and Puran Maharaj Ji, keeping her gharana’s rich traditions vibrant.

    Tejas Soni teaches Vocal and Harmonium at Saptak School of Music and is also a freelance musician. He holds a Master's degree in Performing Arts from Upasana School of Performing Arts, Gujarat University.

    Manjusha Patil

    Manjusha Patil began her training under Mhaiskar Buva Ji in Sangli and spent 13 years under D.V. Kanebuva Ji in the Gurukul Paddhati, learning the Gwalior gharana from Shubhada Paradkar Ji and continuing Kanebuva's legacy with Narendra Kanekar Ji. In Pune, she further refined her skills in the Agra and Gwalior gharanas under Vikasji Kashalkar Ji and Ulhas Kashalkar, developing a distinctive and nuanced style.

    Shujaat Khan

    Shujaat Khan's musical pedigree extends seven generations. He is the son and disciple of the great Imdadkhani gharana sitarist Vilayat Khansahab. His musical career began at the age of three when he began practicing on a specially made small sitar. By the age of six, he was recognized as a child prodigy and began formal performances. Over the years, Shujaat Khansahab has performed at major national and international festivals, earning acclaim for his innovative approach while staying rooted in tradition.

    Sapan Anjaria began his formal tabla training under the late Nandan Mehta at the Saptak School of Music and continues to refine his skills under Puran Maharaj Ji, Rajal Shah Ji, and Hetal Mehta Ji. He is a B-High grade tabla player of AIR and a former winner of the Nandan Mehta Shastriya Taal Vaadya Spardha. He considers himself fortunate to have accompanied both maestros and emerging talents from across the country, enriching his musical journey.

    Shariq Mustafa

    Shariq Mustafa is a talented tabla artist from the Farukhabad gharana, hailing from a distinguished musical lineage that includes his father Rashid Mustafa Thirakwa Ji and grandfather Ahmed Jan Thirakwa Ji. He began learning tabla at a very young age under his father’s guidance and has since developed into a versatile performer. Shariq Ji has performed at numerous national and international music festivals. Known for his expressive playing and intricate rhythmic patterns, he brings depth and energy to every performance.

    Uday Bhawalkar

    Uday Bhawalkar is one of the foremost exponents of the ancient dhrupad tradition. Trained rigorously for over 12 years in the guru-shishya parampara under Zia Fariduddin Dagar Ji and Zia Mohiuddin Dagar Ji, he imbibed the deep nuances of melody, raga, and spiritual discipline. Since his debut performance in Bhopal in 1985, Uday Ji has performed widely across India and internationally at major music festivals. Known for his deeply meditative voice and expressive renditions, he blends the solemn tradition of dhrupad with soulful lyricism. Besides performing, he is also a dedicated teacher — mentoring students at his home in Pune and through institutions such as ITC Sangeet Research Academy.

    Chintan Upadhyay hails from Bhavnagar, Gujarat, and began his musical training under his parents and their guru during his early years. He earned a Master's degree in classical music from Lalit Kala Kendra, Pune University under Vikas Kashalkar Ji and Vijay Koparkar Ji. In 2004, he became a disciple of the great Dhrupad maestro Uday Bhawalkar Ji, embracing the traditional guru–shishya parampara. He holds a B-High grade with All India Radio as a Dhrupad vocalist and was awarded a Junior Research Fellowship by the Government of India for Dhrupad studies. Chintan Ji has performed widely across India and abroad — including concerts and workshops in countries like Canada, USA, UK, Germany, and Austria. In 2020, he founded the Alembic Dhrupad Foundation in Vadodara to teach and promote Dhrupad music.

    Sukhad Munde

    Sukhad Munde is a pakhawaj player from a distinguished musical lineage. He began his training under his father, Manik Munde Ji, and further honed his skills under dhrupad vocalist Uday Bhawalkar Ji. Over the years, he has performed widely as a soloist and accompanist, both in India and internationally. Sukhad Ji also leads the musical trio Samvad, blending traditional Indian rhythms with contemporary sounds. Known for his versatility, he continues to preserve and innovate within the classical pakhawaj tradition.

    Kushal Das

    Kushal Das was born into a musical family in Kolkata. His grandfather, Bimal Das Ji, was an esraj player, while both his father and uncle were accomplished sitarists. His father, Sailen Das Ji, was a disciple of Lakhsman Bhattacharya Ji and Ravi Shankar Ji, and his uncle, Santanu Das Ji, trained under Ali Akbar Khan Ji. Kushal Ji began his musical journey under the guidance of his father and uncle and later received advanced training from Sanjoy Bandopadhyay Ji and Ajoy Sinha Roy Ji, a disciple of Allauddin Khansahab. He also studied vocal music under Manas Chakraborty Ji and Ramkrishna Basu Ji, rounding out his deep understanding of Indian classical music.

    Yashwant Thitte

    Yashwant Thitte is a disciple of Pramod Marathe Ji and Milind Kulkarni Ji. He holds a postgraduate degree in Harmonium from the Lalit Kala Kendra, Gurukul (Savitribai Phule Pune University), and was awarded the Gold Medal in B.A. Music (Harmonium) in 2019. In recognition of his talent, he received the “Vasantotsav Young Musician Award” from the Vasantrao Deshpande Pratishthan, Pune, in 2024.

    Parveen Sultana

    The celebrated vocalist Parveen Sultana Ji inherited her rich musical legacy from her grandfather and father, Ikramul Majid Ji, who studied under the legendary Bade Ghulam Ali Khansahab while completing his graduation. She began her early training with her father, Ikramul Majid Khansahab, and further honed her classical vocal skills under renowned teachers Chinmay Lahiri Ji and S. N. Ratanjankar Ji of the Agra Gharana. She later advanced her training under the eminent vocalist Dilshad Khansahab, shaping her into one of India’s foremost classical singers.

    Akram Khan

    Akram Khan is the son of the legendary tabla maestro Hashmat Ali Khansahab of the Ajrada Gharana. He represents the 7th generation of this distinguished lineage, one of the six principal traditional schools of tabla in India. From an early age, he was fortunate to receive training under his great-grandfather, Mohammad Shafi Khansahab, and further enriched his skills under Niazu Khansahab, widely regarded as one of the greatest exponents of the Ajrada Gharana.

    Ronu Majumdar

    Ronu Majumdar was initiated into learning flute by his father, Bhanu Majumdar Ji, who himself uses to play it for hobby. Later, Ronu Ji became a disciple of the legendary flautist Vijay Raghav Rao Ji, and also received vocal training from Lakshman Prasad Jaipurwale Ji. In the early 1980s, he came under the mentorship of the great Ravi Shankar Ji, joining his orchestras and contributing to his popular albums. Under their guidance, he developed a distinctive style that bridged classical tradition and contemporary sensibility.

    Kumar Bose

    Born into a distinguished musical family, Tabla maestro Kumar Bose Ji received his early training from his father and guru, the renowned tabla player Biswanath Bose Ji. After his father’s untimely demise, he came under the tutelage of the legendary tabla maestro, the Kishan Maharaj Ji of the Banaras Gharana. Kumar Ji is known for his powerful yet nuanced playing.

    Suman Ghosh

    Suman Ghosh is an Indian classical Hindustani vocalist, trained primarily in the Mewati Gharana under the legendary Pandit Jasraj. Known for his soulful voice, intricate taans, and command over khayal and bhajan repertoire, he has performed internationally and contributed to the teaching and promotion of Indian classical music. He is also recognized for his work as a music educator, nurturing the next generation of classical vocalists. His performances are praised for blending technical mastery with deep spiritual expression.

    Sapan Anjaria*

    Sapan Anjaria began his formal tabla training under the late Nandan Mehta at the Saptak School of Music and continues to refine his skills under Puran Maharaj Ji, Rajal Shah Ji, and Hetal Mehta Ji. He is a B-High grade tabla player of AIR and a former winner of the Nandan Mehta Shastriya Taal Vaadya Spardha. He considers himself fortunate to have accompanied both maestros and emerging talents from across the country, enriching his musical journey.

    Nilay Salvi

    Nilay Salvi is a talented young Harmonium player who, while pursuing his bachelor and masters in Vocals from Maharaja Sayajirao University of Baroda, developed an interest in harmonium which soon became his passion. Thus, he started learning the intricacies of Harmonium from Tanmay Deochake and continues to do so.

He has performed with many renowned vocalists and instrumentalists across India, earning appreciation for his clarity, precision, and depth. Today, he is recognized as one of the promising talents in the field of Hindustani classical tabla.

    Siddhesh Bicholkar

    Siddhesh Bicholkar began his musical journey early under the guidance of Sharad Matkar Ji in Goa. Later, he studied under the legendary harmonium maestro Tulsidas Borkar Ji, from whom he learned the subtleties of instrumental accompaniment and classical recitals. Siddhesh Ji has earned several prestigious scholarships from the Government of India, recognizing his skill and dedication. He is known for presenting rare jaltarang recitals as well as refined harmonium accompaniment - a combination that sets him apart in contemporary classical music. Currently, he serves as a classical music teacher at Sharda Sangeet Vidyalaya in Mumbai and regularly collaborates with prominent vocalists and musicians in concerts.

    Pravin Shinde began his Tabla training with his father, Mahadev Shinde Ji, and later studied under Vinod Vaishnav Ji and Nandan Mehta Ji. Since 1998, he has been a faculty member at the Saptak School of Music, where he teaches aspiring Tabla players in the Benares Gharana.

    N. Rajam

    N. Rajam Ji grew up in a deeply musical environment - her father, the Carnatic violinist A. Narayana Iyer Ji, and her brother, the renowned violinist T. N. Krishnan Ji, shaped her early musical world. Trained first by her father in the Carnatic style, she began playing the violin at a very young age. Her journey later shifted toward Hindustani classical music when she became a disciple of the eminent vocalist Omkarnath Thakur Ji, under whose guidance she evolved the expressive Gayaki Ang approach. Throughout her long and illustrious career, she has mesmerized listeners with her soulful alaaps, graceful meends, and fluid taans, making the violin echo the nuances and emotional depth of the human voice.

    Tejendra Narayan Majumdar

    Tejendra Narayan Majumdar is an exponent of the Maihar Gharana. He began his musical journey under his grandfather, Bibhuti Ranjan Majumdar Ji, followed by training from his father, Ranjan Majumdar Ji.     Sumit Mishra comes from a family of musicians; he is the son of Sohan Lal Mishra Ji, nephew of Mohan Lal Mishra Ji, and grandson of Bundi Maharaj Ji. He received his early training under the guidance of his father and uncle and later continued under sarangi maestro Ramnarayan Ji.

    Allarakha Kalawant began his musical training under his grandfather, Immamuddin Khan, a disciple of the celebrated vocalist Amir Khan.     Mukundraj Deo Ji drew inspiration and encouragement for his art from his mother, Manjiri Deo Ji, a renowned Kathak dancer and disciple of the late Natraj Gopi Krishna Ji, and his father, Shreeram Deo Ji, a true connoisseur of dance and music.     Umakant Gundecha

    The elder of the renowned Dhrupad vocal duo, the Gundecha Brothers, Umakant Gundecha Ji received rigorous training from Dhrupad maestros Zia Fariddudin Dagar Ji and Zia Mohiuddin Dagar Ji. Known for his deep, meditative style, he, along with his late brother Ramakant Gundecha Ji, played a key role in reviving Dhrupad for modern audiences and became among the most prominent vocalists of their generation.     Ghulam Hasan Khan

    Ghulam Hasan Khan, hailing from a musical family and belonging to the Rampur-Sahaswan Gharana, is the great-grandson of Mushtaq Hussain Khansahab.     Tanay Rege has studied tabla for seven years under tabla exponent Praveen Karkare Ji at Sharda Sangeet Vidyalaya. Currently, he is continuing the taleem in Punjab Gharana under Yogesh Samsi Ji.     Ramana Balachandhran

    Ramana Balachandhran is a gifted veena player in the Carnatic tradition, born into a musical family. After his demise she learnt from Amina Parera and Aashish Khan (daughter and son of Ali Akbar Khan). She also learnt under Amiya Ranjan Bannerjee at Rabindra Bharati University and also took lessons in the Carnatic style of playing the violin at Kolkata.

    Anuj Mishra belongs to a renowned musical and dance family of the Varanasi Gharana and represents the thirteenth generation of artists in his family.     Dipal Mehta is an Indian Classical Flutist and a disciple of flute maestro Hariprasad Chaurasia. He was a residential scholar and disciple of Hariprasad Chaurasia at the Vrindavan Gurukul, Mumbai. He started learning music in the year 2009 in his hometown and later came under the tutelage of flute legend Hariprasad Chaurasia in 2013.     Ramkumar Mishra

    Ramkumar Mishra is the grandson of tabla legend Anokhelal Mishra Ji of the Banaras Gharana and the son of noted vocalist Chhannulal Mishra Ji. He was initiated into tabla playing by his mother, Manorama Mishra Ji, daughter of Anokhelal Mishra Ji, and later received advanced training under another renowned tabla maestro, Chhote Lal Mishra Ji, his maternal uncle.
